Apart from praying to be seen, as Jesus taught against in Matthew 6:5-15, this chapter also opens doorways to a greater understanding of closing the doors of our minds during prayers. Doors of the mind are pathways through which distractions, confusions, and procrastination can enter. It’s essential to be a good gatekeeper, actively closing off these entrances to maintain focus and purity in our communication with God.
Matthew 6:6 – But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Make the deliberate decision to close the doors on ideas, worries, friends or family, business, and projects or anything else during prayer. Let them stand as doors that you consciously shut, allowing you to open your window unto heaven. Recall the verse where Jesus said we should close our doors during prayers; if we don’t, demons will come through them to distract our worship and focus.
Philippians 4:6-7 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
When all doors are closed—including those of social media, views, likes, followers, and business ideas—you enter a state where nothing else exists but a blank atmosphere. In this space, only you and God exist. Having sealed off all worries, plans, ideas, and thoughts, the only action left is to worship God, for nothing else remains. Imagine standing in an all-white empty room—nothing to clean, nothing to sit on, no distractions, just you and God standing before you. In such moments, the Holy Spirit assists you in communicating your worries and sadness to the Father. You find yourself in a state of pure worship, asking for nothing because your sole focus is God. This is the state in which the heavenly saints abide, and it is their eternal joy.
When distractions arise during prayer, whether they be worries or ideas, do not focus on them. Instead, pray that God will align His will with these thoughts.
