“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.”
There is nothing wrong with making a living, but the Lord is the only one who can bless everything and is able to take Joseph from the prison to the palace. We are to love Him more than all things.
Peter went back into fishing after he had seen the glory of Jesus, yet he went back. He caught nothing because he had a calling upon him for men and not for fish. Jesus came and showed him that He had the power to give him more fish than he could ever catch if only he obeyed Him.
Some are called for a different purpose and not for self. Some use the grace, wisdom, and gifts of God for self, of which many of us are guilty.
This year is a year to choose for ourselves whom to serve and how to serve, knowing that no matter the riches one may gather here on earth, they do not pass on to eternity. A man’s life is not determined by the things he has, but by the love he has for the Lord, his service to God, and the lives he has touched through God.
Luke 12:15 (KJV)
“A man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”
Everything will fade away, but only the love we have shown God will stand the test of time unto eternity. It is not just about sacrifices or material things we give for His service, but about spending time with Him, closer and closer, rekindling the first love as before, making Him the center of everything. The joy and peace that come from that are abundant. He will take care of everyone who loves Him, cares about Him, and cherishes Him more than their own priorities. He is God. He can do anything to reward our love.
Let us start by loving the Lord this year!
