Just like someone learning a trade, learning to swim, or learning to fly a plane, you don’t become an expert in a day, so it is with trusting in God. We make mistakes, we doubt, we fail, but as we keep trusting and trying without giving up, we build our faith and it grows. What you can’t grow, you can’t sustain.
Living above sin is like walking on water when others are drowning in it. Some may say, “No one can ever stop sinning or live above sin.” The truth is, what is impossible for a natural man is possible for a supernatural man, a believer who lives by faith.
The Bible says in Philippians 4:13:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
If Jesus said He came to deliver you from sin, but you say, “I cannot be delivered from sin,” then you will remain in bondage because of your unbelief.
Trusting in the power of God through the Holy Spirit in us gives us the assurance that, even when we strive for perfection, we will attain it as we practice holiness through our actions.
Salvation is received without works, but it can only be preserved by obeying God’s commandments.
Titus 2:11–12
“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.”
Faith gives us the power to do the impossible, even when it’s not naturally possible.
Mark 9:23
“Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”
When you believe you can overcome and live above sin, you will, because it’s only then that you can use the power and authority in Christ to overcome. But when you believe you can’t, you will never even try.
Jesus did not use his godly advantage to win temptations or stop trials; he did not cheat. He passed through everything as a normal man would. This is to send a message to us that we, too, can use the same Holy Spirit he used. He remained human during circumstances to relate to every condition and issue. He was hungry, he was sad, he was thirsty, he felt pain; he was tempted by desires like a human, and yet he did not sin. He proved that a man can walk over sin even in this sinful world. If Jesus could do it by the Holy Spirit, his children can.
