A man passed by a beggar and had mercy on the beggar and gave to him what he needed. Not because the beggar did something extraordinary, something good, spoke well, pleaded the right way, or was qualified for it, but because he had mercy.
Mercy is independent of any works anyone can do. God can choose to have mercy independently and regardless of any works done by anyone.
“So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.”
Romans 9:16
Mercy is perfectly jurisdictional on the choice of the giver, regardless of the works, condition, or situation of the receiver.
“I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”
Exodus 33:19
We may fall into the deception that God would do this or that because we did this or that. We fall into the deception of works to obtain mercy.
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us.”
Titus 3:5
Thinking, God should…….. because we are……or because we did…….
Yet, many that do less than we did receive more than us, and we become offended because we thought we would receive more because we did…..more.
Thinking if we should give this or do that, God would see it and consider us because of that. That is still works.
Works turn mercy into a reward and destroy the meaning of mercy. For mercy to be mercy, it must be independent of works.
Works puff us up, pleading mercy humbles us, and that humility is the only source for God’s intervention.
Mercy is an independent entity.
Bro Paul told us to come boldly, but not to come with pride. We are to come in humility, but the boldness comes from the works of Christ at Calvary, which was enough to plead our cause for the mercy we need, because he knew that God is faithful to acknowledge the sacrifice of Jesus.
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16
Mercy can obtain anything; help, security, favor, blessings, forgiveness, healing, renewal, revival, power, grace..and so on.
Many fastings and prayers are merely works, thinking we can obtain our healings, blessings, and favors by following a procedure as if God is a robot. We may follow all the protocols, yet God may not give his approval because we can’t twist God’s hand using protocols. The door must open by mercy.
When we come to God on the basis of works for mercy, he accepts the measuring system and adopts it toward us. But the bitter truth is, there are no works we can ever do to get to any level to obtain that mercy.
So we try so much to be faithful here and there because we want to use that to obtain mercy. Faithfulness is good, but when it is done with the mindset of obtaining mercy because of it, it becomes a work tool to qualify ourselves for God’s mercy, and it’s never enough.
Demons and witches can’t prevail over God’s mercy. Curses are broken by mercy. Even when fasting and praying, when it’s based on mercy, it’s the most effective.
No need to fast for 7 days casting out demons, fast for 7 days pleading for mercy.
Mercy wages war on our behalf and fights in the heavenly places. It opens locked doors.
Since it wasn’t based on works or what we do, it doesn’t remember sins or wrongs. It washes them off.
The only work a man can do that can add to the qualifications of obtaining mercy with the work of Calvary is also to have mercy on others.
“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”
Matthew 5:7
Even if Calvary is there, if we don’t have mercy on others, it can never be given to us likewise.
