We receive nothing by merit: forgiveness, salvation, redemption, deliverance, help for our loved ones, healing, the Holy Spirit, grace, these are all given to us only by mercy. Without God’s mercy, we can obtain nothing, no matter how fervent or zealous we are. God owes no one anything. Every evil in the world is caused by man’s wickedness and because of the neglection of the only One who can save them: Jesus Christ. God is never to be blamed for anything, and yet, in His mercy, he still reaches out to us.
We are like someone being held up by a hand to prevent us from falling, and yet we whip that hand, causing it to bleed, but He never let go. Mercy is written in His eyes, and His compassion is evident in everything He does. Even when we attack His servants and children, He remains merciful, not wanting any of us to perish. Day by day, He waits for us, envisioning us in His arms again, washing our wounds, healing our broken hearts, restoring our confidence, wiping away our tears and reproach. He is the one who breaks the yoke of sin from the neck of the addicted.
It’s all by His mercy. A hundred years of good works are not enough to guarantee a single day of God’s mercy. Nothing we receive from God is by merit, no matter how great our deeds may seem. His forgiveness, grace, favor, blessings, healing, strength, anointing, gifts, none of these are earned; they come only through His mercy.
How do we receive His mercy, or are there no requirements, and He gives it as He wills?
Yes, He bestows mercy as He wills, but there are things that position us to receive it when we ask for it:
- By accepting Jesus as Lord: Romans 10:9
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” - By being merciful: Matthew 5:7
“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.” - By seeking God: Luke 1:50
“And His mercy is on them that fear Him from generation to generation.”
Being merciful means extending a helping hand and having a forgiving heart. It’s not about looking down on others, but standing in love, compassion, and forgiveness. Forgiving others and showing compassion ensures that you receive the same mercy from God.
